Rohrig always stresses to clients that the sooner our team is involved in project planning, the more we can contribute to creating value for the life of the building.
Aspley Hornets Australian Football and Sporting Club, on the northern outskirts of Brisbane, first involved Rohrig 18 months ago for help in scoping and developing a major renovation of the club, which is now underway.
Rohrig has coordinated the full design development of the project. We supported the club’s decision-making from concept planning and design through to development approval, and now in the construction itself, which has been carefully staged to minimise the impact on patrons and income.
The $4.5 million project will bring fresh, contemporary facilities to the club, including major renovations to the entry foyer, renovation and extension of the gaming area, demolition of the Sports Bar and creation of a new Sports Bar, new deck area, new offices and car-park modifications.
The project is due to be complete late this year and has been designed to achieve the greatest transformation for the club within their strict budget. With our in-depth understanding of both the club sector and construction, we were able to bring vision to maximise long-term opportunities and reality-testing to ensure building challenges and costs were minimised.
Logistics during the construction phase have been planned so the existing Sports Bar will be modified and kept operating while the new build is completed around it. Once the new Sports Bar is finished and open to patrons, Rohrig will demolish and renovate the existing bar, which will become the foyer area.
As a separate project, a new canteen has been constructed (in anticipation of demolition of the existing canteen with the main build) and completed ahead of schedule. This was also a complete design and construct project.
For the many players and community members who use the club, it will be business-as-usual until the exciting new extension and renovation is revealed.
The club, which was founded in 1964, will then be well-placed to continue its role as one of north Brisbane’s most popular social and entertainment venues.
It’s a pleasure for Rohrig to work with this Aspley Hornets club, which is not only central to community life but also gives back to the community to the tune of around $840,000 last year.
